My Guitar History - Audio
by Mark Center

I got my first acoustic guitar somewhere around 1971 from my fathers very good friend and neighbor, Jack Carvalho. Jack taught me a few basic cords and for a few years I pretty much just messed around on the thing.

In 1974, I took a beginners class at Half Moon Bay High School. As I remember it, we may have had a proper teacher but I remember Mike Cotruvo as the guy who really instilled the want in us to play, to Rock! After all, he could play Stairway to Heaven, a current (at the time) and mind bending song to us Freshman. And, Mike could play many more tunes and he had long hair, and well, you get the picture!

Years later, and with no more talent, I jammed around with a number of local kids; Tony Pullin, Bob McCormick, Barry Hutcherson, and many more. While the Cotruvo Brothers (Mike and Chris), Barry Hutcherson, Tim Ferrie, Bob McCormick and others got really good, I just messed around, with the same dreams as those better players but alas, without the chops.

In any case, I present to you; the interested, uninterested and web surfers who have unsuspecting come across this treasure trove of audio delights, a cornucopia of the dreams of one youth, to rock... such as they were.

Thank good video wasn't easily available back then!

This music was recorded by boom box and 2 track reel to reel tapes recorders for the most part. In the case of, Stash, the majority of those tunes we're recorded in a professional recording studio located in Sunnyvale, California. Those master tapes have long since vanished but I have a mono copy on cassette which, much to your collective delights; I saved, digitized, cleaned up and present to you after a long, very long, 25 year wait.

PS, I left off the names of most everyone involved in this music. I'm not going to take the chance of publicly embarrassing them and then meeting them in a public place and then getting my ass kicked... which is what I would do given the same situation... if they we're smaller than me...
